Builder Final Clean Checklist for Calgary General Contractors

A room-by-room list you can hand to your cleaner or use to sign off the work yourself.

Quick answer

A builder final clean covers every surface the client will touch: floors, glass, cabinets, fixtures, appliances, vents and trim, with dust removed from all high and low surfaces. It happens after the last trade leaves and before the walkthrough.

The final clean is the last impression of your build. A client who walks into dust on the window sills starts the warranty conversation in a bad mood. Use this checklist to scope the clean, brief your cleaner and sign off the result.

When the Final Clean Happens

Final cleans belong after paint, flooring, trim, tile, plumbing and electrical trims are finished, and before the client walkthrough. Booking it before the last trade leaves means paying for the clean twice.

The Walkthrough and Sign-Off

Walk the build with the cleaner and note anything missed. A good provider returns for punch-list items. Take dated photos so you have a record if a dispute comes up later.

Common Questions

Who is responsible for the final clean on a new build?

It depends on your contract. Many builders hire a post-construction cleaning company so the home is handed over clean, with the cost built into the project.

How long does a final clean take?

It depends on the size and finish of the space. Your cleaner can give a time estimate after seeing the plans or the site.

Do you need a rough clean before the final clean?

A rough clean between trades removes debris and heavy dust, which makes the final clean faster and the result better.

Can you clean on possession day?

Cleans can be scheduled close to possession. Talk to your cleaner early so the date works around your final trades.
